Every Sunday morning, I get up at 6 AM, well, maybe 6:15, and get ready to watch the Sunday service at Lakewood Church, which is streamed out of Houston, Texas, at 6:30 PST. The Head Pastor is Joel Olstein. I am amazed at how Joel presents a topic that seems to be designed just for me. I always come away feeling energized and ready for another week.
When you are old, I’m 84, almost 85, you are either looking for a rest home, a cemetery plot, or you are looking forward to the next great event in your life. And that goes for the young as well. Every day is a new day. The past is behind me, but God has things in store for you and me. And if we don’t get up and get going, we might miss out on something big. I am glad and thankful I was able to get going this morning, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the day is going to bring.
Today is a day that God has made. It is going to be a great day. All my dreams and desires are on their way. It is up to me to do everything I can to make them happen, and have faith in God that he will do for me what I can’t do for myself. By the way, it took me a few decades to figure that out.
Sometimes I have faith relapses, and I wonder if I am on the right path. And then I look in the mirror and remember that’s me. I am the old guy who has a dozen projects underway. I am in Hollywood, or at least as close as I can get. I have had roles in 15 short films and four fantastic movies that stream on platforms like Amazon. I have posted 146 Articles on DoctorMe, my Substack Newsletter, and I'm working on a novel. I also have a dozen articles to finish. In addition, I have submitted a short story to The New Yorker and one to The Atlantic, and I’m also dealing with a half dozen medical problems that God and I are resolving. And right around the corner is a new opportunity I didn’t think about until just now.
Every morning I tell myself, “Duane, get up, look in the mirror, and get going - you are a child of God. If you cry a little for those you’ve lost, that’s ok. But your job is to get up, get going, and be the person you were created to be. Do the best you can with what you’ve got and ask God for help to overcome the obstacles that become roadblocks.”
Until next time.
Duane
