Father’s Day isn’t just a celebration for fathers who are alive, but it is also a day when we remember and celebrate the fathers who are in Heaven with our Heavenly Father.
When I was a kid, I was closer to my mother than my father, mainly because my father didn’t talk much. He was a quiet man. If he wanted me to do something he would tell my mother and she would tell me what he wanted me to do. But I knew my dad loved me. He just never in his whole life said the words, “I love you, son”. It was kind of funny because even though he didn’t say the words, I always thought he did. It was because every time I got interested in something there he was making a box for my oil paints or buying me a new bicycle when the current one got too old to fix. He was a good dad. When I got older I used to see him almost every day. I would have a cup of coffee with him and talk to him about what was going on in my life and my affairs. When my dad died I was there by his side. He was unconscious but I was holding his hand and he clutched mine with a grip that made me wonder if he knew I was there or if it was just an automatic reflex. I think he knew just like he always did. And it occurred to me that Love isn’t something you have to say out loud. It is something everyone says all the time, but It means a lot more if you are thinking it and projecting it all the time.
Until next time.
